Alembic located in Mountain View California was founded in 2012 by Dr. Aaron Berez and is a privately held Medical Device incubator company focused on bringing novel neurovascular solutions to market. Alembic has formed two portfolio companies that are at various phases of product development and manufacturing that consists of programs at various stages of R&D and Manufacturing
Cathera, Inc, the first Alembic portfolio company, developed a suite of microcatheters optimized for intracranial navigation. Cathera was acquired by Medtronic in 2018.
Palmera, Inc, a second Alembic portfolio company, is developing new therapeutic and novel products for the minimally invasive treatment of stroke that have the potential to improve outcome for patients that are currently treated, as well as widen the scope of patients that can benefit from therapy.

Chief Executive Officer
Aaron L. Berez, MD
Dr. Berez is the founder and CEO of Alembic, LLC, a medical device development company in Mountain View developing new devices for Interventional Neuroradiology.
Cathera, Inc, an Alembic company, developed a suite of microcatheters optimized for intracranial navigation. Cathera was acquired by Medtronic in 2018.
Palmera, Inc, an Alembic company, is developing new technologies for the minimally invasive treatment of stroke that have the potential to improve outcome for patients that are currently treated, as well as widen the scope of patients that can benefit from therapy.
At his previous company, Chestnut Medical, he led the development of the Pipeline Embolization Device for the treatment of complex intracranial aneurysms. In 2012, Pipeline was recognized as a top ten medical device innovation by the Cleveland Clinic. Today, it is being used to treat aneurysm patients all over the world and represents a $150MM annual franchise for Medtronic.
Chestnut Medical was acquired by ev3 in 2009. Prior to that Dr. Berez worked at Smart Therapeutics where he helped develop the Neuroform and Wingspan intracranial stents, and Endovasix.
Aaron is currently an investor, advisor, and director to privately held medical device companies focused on capital-efficient medical device development.
A graduate of the Georgetown University School of Medicine, where he received his MD degree, Aaron’s postgraduate training was at UCSF/Mt. Zion in Internal Medicine, and Stanford University in Radiology and Neuroradiology.

Chief Operating Officer
Greg Welsh
Mr. Welsh joined Alembic, LLC in September 2016 and brings over 30 years of Engineering, Operations and Management experience at a variety of medical device companies from startup ventures to global Fortune 500 corporations.
Prior to joining Alembic Mr. Welsh served as VP Operations at Amendia, a spine company where he was responsible for the iO Flex business unit and NBD activities. Prior to Amendia he served as VP Operations at Baxano, a spine start up where he was responsible for all Operations and the launch of a spinal lumbar decompression system. Prior to Baxano Mr. Welsh served as Director of Production Operations at Avantis Medical, a colonoscopy imaging startup, and held various management positions of increasing responsibility at Target Therapeutics and Boston Scientific Neurovascular Division where he was responsible for new product scale up operations and manufacturing of microcatheters, stent delivery systems, intracranial stents and IVUS imaging catheters.
Mr. Welsh early in his career served at Edwards, a division of Baxter Healthcare (now Edwards Life Sciences) in various engineering and project leadership roles in R&D and Manufacturing specializing in Cardiology products which included angioplasty catheters, coronary guidewires, Introducers, AAA products, and Peripheral ePTFE Grafts.
Mr. Welsh holds a BS degree in Mechanical Engineering from California Polytechnic Institute, San Luis Obispo and holds a Management Development Program Certificate from the School of Business at the University of Southern California.
